3. Portland, Oregon

Bring your family to the Portland Saturday Market, which is the largest arts and crafts fair in the United States. Being in the city comes with excellent shopping and restaurant options that are within walking distance. To all the readers out there: You must check out Powell’s City of Books. This store covers an entire city block and is the world’s largest new and used bookstore. You are bound to find some gems there that will become mementos from your trip.

4. Pinetop, Arizona

With over 50 alpine lakes, Pinetop is the antithesis of the typical Arizona desert. Located a few hours outside of Phoenix, this refreshing destination has horseback riding, hiking trails, and picturesque golf courses. Traveling here is a great way to hit the reset button and relax. Collect wildflowers that seem to pop up everywhere as you explore. At 7,200 feet, the altitude and crisp air off the White Mountains is also a great way to get out of the summer heat.

5. Lake Lure, North Carolina
