Park City is best known as a world class destination for outdoor recreation. In fact, the Fall season might just be one of the most underrated times to visit! With cooler daytime temperatures, fewer crowds, and the town’s breathtaking change to its Fall colors, this time of year offers up numerous ways to play outside! To celebrate the start of Fall, we’ve compiled a list of our absolute favorite day hikes in the Park City area. Check them out on your next visit!
Note: Downloading a hiking or mapping app on your phone can be a great way to navigate the various hikes in the Park City area. Even better, these apps are excellent for mixing and matching different sections of trails and creating your own Park City hiking adventure!
This is the easiest and most family-friendly trail but the views are definitely worth it! This gentle and paved trail is a 3.6 mile out and back that’s great for biking, hiking, or jogging. You can also add an additional 1.75 mile loop at the McPolin Barn Nature Trail. To access, look for the McPolin Barn pull out on HW 224.
Stats: 3.6 – 5.3 miles. 110’ Elevation Gain, Easy Difficulty
This is a great easy to moderate trail that has a number of options to make your hike shorter or longer depending on what you choose. Nestled in the Round Valley Protected Open Space, this incredible network of trails crisscrosses the wide open sagebrush fields near downtown Park City. With relatively little elevation gain, this trail is perfect for large groups or families to get out and enjoy the gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains.
Stats: Varied Distance – Varied Elevation Gain – Easy to Moderate Difficulty
Bloods Lake Trail
This is one of the most popular hikes in Park City and for good reason. It’s relatively short and takes you to the incredibly beautiful Bloods Lake surrounded by the tall peaks of the Wasatch. While there are some steep sections, overall the trail is relatively flat. The hike out offers plenty of shade under the aspens and is very well marked. This is an ideal trail for families who are looking to hike to one of Utah’s famed alpine lakes! The trailhead is located at the top of Guardsmen Pass and is closed in the winter months. Be sure to check road conditions prior to heading to the trailhead.
Stats: 2.8 miles, 500’ Elevation Gain – Moderate Difficulty
With lush aspen groves and beautiful vistas overlooking the Park City Ski Resort, Rob’s Trail is an excellent out-and-back with some moderate elevation gain. On warmer days this trail provides excellent shading and can be linked with other hiking trails. Most hikers opt for returning back down Rob’s Trail to avoid the mountain bikers on the other more bike friendly trails. This would be the perfect early morning trail to get your legs going as the 775 feet of elevation is a great and manageable workout!
Stats: 4 miles – 780’ Elevation Gain – Moderate Difficulty
Silver Lake Trail to Bald Mountain
Up for panoramic views, gorgeous aspens, and a plethora of wildflowers? The Silver Lake trail to Bald Mountain might be for you. Though there is a bit of climbing (1,300’ to be exact), this trail is an extremely popular out-and-back and takes roughly 2 ½ hours to complete. Starting near the bottom of the Deer Valley Ski Resort, this trail whisks you up high into the alpine giving you incredible views of the surrounding valley. Be sure to bring water, snacks, and a warm layer as ridgetop winds can be chilly! For access, we recommend taking the free Park City bus service from town to the Silver Lake Lodge at the Deer Valley Ski Resort.
Stats: 4 miles – 1300’ Elevation Gain – Moderate to Advanced Difficulty
