Driftwood Inn Resort
No timeshare resort captures the unique charm of Vero Beach quite like Driftwood Inn. Built by local eccentric Waldo E. Sexton (one of the key figures behind McKee Jungle Gardens) between 1935 and 1937, the Driftwood Inn Resort features board and batten siding, off-level balconies with rustic balustrades, shingled gables with decorative trussing, and a courtyard with stone walls and ceramic tile floors. Legend has it that during the Inn’s construction, Sexton, who had no training as an architect or builder, eschewed blueprints and simply shouted orders at his workers, resulting in the Driftwood’s overall off-kilter appearance.
An avid collector, Sexton filled the Driftwood (originally his private Vero Beach house) with artifacts he’d acquired on his travels. Many are still on display today, including two ancient canons, a Colonial-era Spanish mural, and a huge collection of bells.
Shortly after the construction of their Vero Beach house, Sexton’s wife, Elsebeth, began to operate a small resort hotel out of the Driftwood, often cooking meals for the guests herself. This led to the construction of an on-site restaurant, Waldo’s, in 1947. At Waldo’s, you’ll find a large menu offering fresh seafood, sandwiches and wraps, pasta, and salads. Eat inside or dine alfresco by the outdoor heated pool.
In addition to the restaurant and main pool, amenities at the Driftwood Inn Resort include a second heated pool, bar with indoor/outdoor seating, tennis courts, live entertainment, direct beach access, a gift shop, and barbecue facilities. Accommodations, meanwhile, are generously appointed and come in one or two bedrooms with optional ocean views.
Already own a timeshare condo at the Driftwood Resort Inn? You can rent it out with Timeshares Only and cover your maintenance fees while you’re not using it!

Choose from studios, efficiency units, and one-bedroom villas, all thoughtfully appointed with full kitchens, quality linens, Wi-Fi, plush king and queen beds, and pullout sleeper sofas.
Vero Beach is a quintessentially laid-back town. But active vacationers will find plenty of ways to get their blood pumping at the Reef Ocean Resort. Basketball and tennis courts let you net hours of fun in the sun, while a ping pong table offers fast-paced action in the AC. Direct beach access makes watersports opportunities equally accessible, with windsurfing and boogie boarding being among the popular activities at the resort. Looking for slower-paced recreation? You’ll find that, too, with a relaxing outdoor pool and on-site putting green.
As well as recreational amenities, the Reef Ocean Resort boasts a restaurant where you can have the night-out experience without the night-out commute. Located right on-site at the resort, Bobby’s Restaurant and Lounge is a popular hangout for Vero Beach locals. The menu features an extensive selection of seafood, steaks, and sandwiches at reasonable prices, while optional patio seating lets you dine right on the beach. Bobby’s’ popularity makes reservations a good idea. But a full bar with handmade cocktails, wine, and beer makes a great place to wait for your table.
The Reef Ocean Resort features a great location in Vero’s exclusive Ocean Drive district. Enjoy walkable access to high-end shopping, live entertainment, art galleries, and more!
Things to Do On Your Vero Beach Vacation
Strict development codes have allowed Vero Beach’s natural beauty and historical heritage to remain largely untouched over the past 150 years. So, while you won’t find any nightclubs, theme parks, or extravagant entertainment complexes in Vero Beach, nature and history lovers will find plenty to do near our Vero Beach vacation rentals.
McKee Botanical Garden
McKee Botanical Garden is a must-see attraction for both nature and history lovers. Opened in 1932, McKee was one of Florida’s first tourist attractions. For several decades, it was one of the state’s most popular. Designed by tropical landscape artist William Lyman Phillips, McKee Jungle Gardens (as it was originally known) drew visitors from around the world with its trails, streams, ponds, and lush vegetation.
Although McKee Botanical Garden was closed and most of its land sold in 1976, the Garden was repurchased by the Indian River Land Trust in 1995, after which it was designated a Florida Landmark and added to the National Register of Historic Places. In 2001, McKee Botanical Garden officially reopened and once again became a popular attraction for visitors and Vero Beach locals alike.
In addition to the gardens, McKee boasts a number of other on-site facilities for the enjoyment and edification of guests. Head to the education center to learn more about the Garden, including its specimens, benefactors, architect, and community history. Of course, learning isn’t easy on an empty stomach, so stop by the Garden Café first for fresh lunch items and alfresco dining. Looking for the perfect souvenir for your Vero Beach vacation? Then check out the gift shop, where you’ll find live plants, commemorative trinkets, fashion items, and one-of-a-kind handmade crafts.
Vero Beach Museum of Art
Located just minutes from the best Vero Beach vacation rentals, the Vero Beach Museum of Art is the premier arts facility on the Treasure Coast. Throughout its nearly 40-year history, the state of Florida and the Florida Arts Council have recognized the museum’s cultural significance through numerous grant awards and donations. In 1997, the museum was accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, who cited criteria like quality of exhibitions and programming, professionalism, and community outreach.
The Vero Beach Museum of Art features permanent and temporary art exhibitions, a sculpture garden, classes in studio art and the humanities, docents and guided tours, live performances, a gift shop, a film studies center, seminars and workshops, an art research library, children’s events, and celebrations of community culture. In 2018, the museum opened the Art Zone. This interactive children’s space encourages kids to let their inner artists explore and play through hands-on activities and a 25-foot-long Sketch Aquarium.
Indian River Lagoon
Home to 2,100 species of plants and 2,200 animal species, including 35 endangered animals, the Indian River Lagoon is the most diverse estuary in North America. Among the wildlife you’re likely to encounter are manatees, bottlenose dolphins, and one of America’s most diverse bird populations. American Kestrel, Reddish Egret, and various species of spoonbill all make their home in Vero Beach.
The Indian River Lagoon spans 156 miles of Atlantic coastline from Volusia County south to Palm Beach County, with Vero Beach and Indian River County lying just south of the midway point. Thus, with a vacation rental in Vero Beach, you can stay just minutes from the lagoon.
In addition to wildlife watching, the lagoon offers a perfect location for a number of watersports and other recreation opportunities. Popular activities include boating, fishing, windsurfing, water skiing, canoeing, and kayaking. Looking for an unforgettable Vero Beach vacation experience? Summer is bioluminescent algae season, making nighttime the right time for a canoe or kayak trip.
Hibiscus Festival
In Vero Beach, it’s not enough just to have natural beauty. Here, they celebrate it. Held in late March, the Hibiscus Festival is a yearly celebration of the beauty of nature. Visitors from around the world flock to this festival to see the resplendent colors and vibrant culture of Vero Beach, showcased through live music, dancing, arts and crafts, local food, a hibiscus flower costume contest, and a hibiscus bloom competition.
Want to dive even deeper into the culture and history of Vero Beach? While you’re at the festival, take a guided tour of Vero’s historic downtown. Other unique attractions include a classic car show, a petting zoo, pony rides, and more!
Most of the vacation rentals you’ll find in Vero Beach are on the ocean, across the lagoon from Downtown Vero. But one advantage of vacationing in such a small town is that you’re never more than a short walk or drive from anything. For example, the Driftwood Inn is just ten minutes from the Hibiscus Festival.
Navy SEAL Museum
Located on the beach in South Vero, the Navy SEAL Museum is a unique attraction serving to preserve the history of the Navy’s Sea Air and Land (SEAL) and Underwater Demolition Teams (UDT) programs, commemorate SEALs and UDTs lost in battle, and inform and educate the public about the role of the SEALs and UDTs in American defense. The museum site lies just north of Fort Pierce, which served as one of the first training grounds for Navy SEALs (then known as Frogmen) during World War II.
The Navy SEAL Museum features a number of exhibits, artifacts, and live demonstrations. The centerpiece of the museum is a UDT-SEAL memorial dedicated to lost servicemen. The memorial comprises a bronze SEAL statue and a black granite wall inscribed with the names of SEALs and UDTs. Other exhibits include a “Shark Tooth Boat,” which carried UDTs during WWII and the Korean War, a Patrol Boat River (PBR) used during the Vietnam era, various SEAL vehicles from operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kuwait, and the MV Maersk Alabama lifeboat, made famous in the movie Captain Phillips.
