Although Napa Valley is clearly a destination in itself, California Wine Country is also the perfect jumping off point to visit other beautiful areas nearby that offer every type of scenery from stunning beaches to pristine forests.

Russian River
Cool off with a dip at the Russian River! Along with swimming, boating, and fishing, the most popular activity here is inner tubing down the river, and you’ll spot several places to rent tubes along with canoes, kayaks, beach umbrellas, and anything else you’ll need for a fun day at the river. The Russian River also offers world-class catfish and bass fishing all year long.
Getting There: The Russian Rivers access point is in Guerneville, about 60 miles north of Napa. Simply hop on Highway 128 through Calistoga and head west on Mark West Springs Road.
Travel Tips: The Russian River can draw large crowds in the summer so get an early start if you plan on floating!
Point Reyes
Known for its iconic lighthouse from the 1800s, Point Reyes in Marin County is like taking a little step back in time. Take a tour of the lighthouse or hike along the pristine coast. For a challenge, head out to the 40-foot Alamere Falls well worth the 13-mile trek! If you prefer a relaxing day, browse the shops and restaurants lining the main street of this charming coastal town.
Getting There: Point Reyes is located about 60 miles from Napa. Drive through Petaluma via Highway 116 then turn onto Sir Francis Drake Boulevard once you reach Point Reyes Station.
Travel Tip: The closest gas station from the lighthouse is 20 miles away in Point Reyes Station so plan accordingly!
Muir Woods
Get your forest fix by heading to the Muir Woods. The towering redwood trees here are not only completely awe-inspiring, but they have also been federally protected for over a century. Inside the park, miles of well-maintained trails consisting of a series of raised boardwalks and paved asphalt make this spot the perfect woodland escape for the entire family.
Getting There: From Napa, take the CA-37 West to the US-101 South.
Travel Tip: On weekend and holidays, the park offers a shuttle to and from the parking lots. Also, please be aware that cell reception is limited at best inside the park.
